Translanations: 1129

In the summer of 2009 I went to an auction at an old brush factory that was being cleared out to sell the property. It was just down the street from the Nineteenth Century brewery we had a live work space in. Among other things, I bought 3 or 4 boxes of old catalog cuts from the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth Centuries. There were some other great things in the boxes too like a big fat pig with Cincinnati underneath it in an incredible fin de siecle script. Anyway, I was wanting to use these beautiful cuts of brushes for something. and I had started on the broadside project and decided to kill two birds with one stone.

This broadside is one of the Translanations poems which are homophonic homolinguistic translations of Emily Dickinson poems from English to English. They are essentially a poem morphed through the sounds of the words into other words. The project has all sorts of strange things and fantastical creature in it, and it still surprises me to this day. I have published a number of chapbooks and one full collection (with BlazeVox) of the pieces and have a over 800 of the in manuscript form.
